Compassion starts with the self.

it starts with you

compassion is recognizing that suffering is human, you are not alone in what you go through.

If you are judging and criticizing your body while saying that others look better than you,

you are creating this wall and loneliness that comes with it,

thinking that your body doesnt look good enough,

so you strive and push,

but no matter what you do, you never feel like your body is not good enough.

this leads you to ignore what other people are also struggling with,

the feeling of their bodies not looking good enough

what does this matter

if you are able to identify that you are not alone in your struggle, it is easy to stop it from consuming you with shame like you are lazy because you couldnt just control what you eat, control yourself

when it is more than that, it has never been about control

control takes away the human experience

you didn’t miss a workout because you are lazy, there are so, many factors involved (Listen more on this podcast)

Self-compassion starts with acceptance and not comparison

You allow yourself to be kind to yourself even when you mess up or you are going through a tough time

You might think well that will make you lazy and incompetent,

How has criticizing your body helped you so far?

It might be hard to wrap your head around this, but think about it this way,

You have to work out, and you hate it, self-criticism would say get up you lazy girl and work out,

you might just still lay there and still feel shame, now you have called yourself lazy and you still didn’t work out

However,

This is how self-compassion plays out,

you have to work out but do not feel like it,

so you start to ask yourself kind questions,

Is this workout necessary?

Will my future self thank me?

Then when you do all that self-talk and get yourself out of bed and to the mat or the gym,

you ask yourself, what does my body want to do today,

self-compassion is allowing yourself to challenge yourself,

while being kind to yourself,

it helps you show up without the misery connected to it
